The Mag Playwall: Everything You Want to Know about the Multipurpose Magnetic Wall Decal

The Mag Playwall is not just a pretty wall decal, it is the perfect combination of play, design, and practicality. A magnetic multipurpose wall vinyl created for families who value both play and a beautiful home, this installed on the wall play space invites kids to explore, imagine, and learn without taking over your home.

With two design-led shapes, durable materials, and easy installation, it is the kind of product you wish you had years ago. Whether you are a parent, teacher, or just someone curious about this magical magnetic decal, this post is here to answer your burning questions!

Why is It called The Mag Playwall?

Great question. ‘Playwall’ is pretty straightforward… it’s a space for play, right there on your wall, turning any ordinary wall into a creative playground.

Now, the ‘Mag’ part? I couldn’t quite decide whether to call it the Magnetic Playwall because of its magnetic surface, or the Magic Playwall because, well, it kind of feels like magic! So I thought, why not both? The Mag Playwall it is! A perfect blend of magnetic fun and magical play, all in one! (While looking good in your home!)

What shapes does The Mag Playwall come in?

The Mag Playwall comes in two shapes: an arch, and a square with rounded corners. Both have soft curves that appeal to design-minded families while offering options to suit different spaces. Whether you want the gentle elegance of an arch or the clean versatility of a soft cornered square, there’s a style to complement your home.

Is The Mag Playwall shiny or matte?

The Mag Playwall has a matte finish, which means it blends into your home beautifully without looking too much like another kids toy. That’s part of the magic! It’s play-friendly without clashing with your décor. Even with its matte surface, it can still be used with whiteboard markers and washable crayons.

How to install The Mag Playwall

Installing The Mag Playwall is easier than you think and definitely MUCH easier than the horror of covering exercise books in duricel. If you’ve ever done that, you know what I mean! Follow the four simple steps to get started:

  • Prep: Take The Mag Playwall out of its tube and lay it flat. Put some heavy books or objects on it overnight to help it flaten nicely.
Also, prep your wall by wiping it down with a damp cloth to get rid of dust. Make sure the wall is dry before you start installing it.
  • Peel: Carefully peel the plastic film from the bottom corner. Get a friend to help hold and line up the decal on your chosen wall. Slowly peel away the backing while smoothing the decal with your hands.
  • Press: Press firmly on the decal starting from the middle and move outward to push out any air bubbles. A hard flat item like a hardcover book works wonders here.
  • Play: Now step back and admire your work. It’s playtime! Let your child’s imagination take centre stage on their new creative vertical playground.

What surfaces are compatible?

For the best experience, stick The Mag Playwall to smooth, clean, and dry surfaces like these:

  • Painted walls, ideally matte or low-sheen finishes
  • Glass walls
  • Smooth doors (not glossy paint though).

Avoid stain-resistant or glossy paints because they tend to repel adhesives. Textured surfaces like brick, plaster, or wallpaper can be tricky too. Newly painted walls need at least 30 days to cure before applying the decal. And if your paint is old or cracked, it might not stick well.

If you want to know more about paint finishes, we’ve got you covered. Read our post Glossy vs Matte: The Difference Between These Paint Types to find out which one works best for your Mag Playwall.

Can I move It?

The Mag Playwall is made to stay put once installed. It is designed for one-time application to keep it looking great and sticking well. If you do need to remove it, peel it slowly from the top. Using a hairdryer on low heat to warm the adhesive helps make removal easier and kinder to your wall. Just a heads up that we can’t take responsibility for any wall damage during application or removal, so take care.

Is The Mag Playwall reusable?

While you can remove it carefully, The Mag Playwall is not designed to be repositioned or reused multiple times. Moving it around might weaken the adhesive and affect how well it sticks next time. If you want to reinstall it, you might need to use extra wall adhesive strips.

It won’t stop being magnetic if you move it though! The magic will continue!

We rent our home, can I use The Mag Playwall?

Absolutely yes. If you want a renter-friendly option, try applying The Mag Playwall to a large thin panel of plywood or MDF. Your kids still get the magic without sticking it directly to the walls. Just be sure to secure the panel safely so it doesn’t tip or fall near little hands.

Can I use it in a classroom

Absolutely! The Mag Playwall was designed by a teacher, so it’s perfect for classrooms, learning spaces, and home-schooling setups. It supports open-ended play, fine motor development, and creative thinking – all while keeping resources neatly displayed.

Cleaning tips

The Mag Playwall is designed for real family life, which means it can handle a bit of mess. For best results

  • Wipe with a damp microfiber cloth or baby wipe, they work really well with The Mag Playwall
  • Magic eraser sponges seem to do a good job as well.
  • Avoid paper towels – they can leave lint behind and don’t lift marks as well
  • For stubborn spots, try water first. If still not lifting, use a tiny amount of surface cleaner on a cloth to get the mark off. Clear off any clearer well with water.
  • Stick to using washable crayons or whiteboard markers and avoid permanent pens and felts!

What type of magnets work on The Mag Playwall?

Kids love the magnetic surface and it is designed to work best with lightweight magnets. It does not have the same strong hold as a fridge surface, so heavier or bulky magnets may not stick well. We recommend using flat, light magnets that are easy for little hands to move and play with.

What can we use to draw on The Mag Playwall?

The Mag Playwall is great for drawing with water-based washable markers, whiteboard markers, and washable crayons. Just remember to clean the surface after each use to keep it looking neat and inviting.

The best way to get the Mag Playwall back looking fresh is with a magic eraser. Works wonders at clearing everything off.

How big Is The Mag Playwall?

The Mag Playwall Arch measures 80 centimetres wide by 100 centimetres tall.
The Mag Playwall Square is 80cm by 80cm.

This size is perfect for a dedicated creative play space without taking over the whole room while still being wide enough for two to play side by side. It fits nicely in playrooms, bedrooms, classrooms, or wherever your little ones love to imagine and create.
